I am now part of a Burlesque troupe! I did a photo shoot for the group last month, the location was really great! here a a few samples!

After the photo shoot, I modeled for Dr Sketchys, which was a lot of fun, although sitting in one position for a half hour is tougher then one would think.

Below is my Grandfathers niece, Vivian. She was a real beauty in show biz. She was a show girl in New York, and toured the famous vaudeville circuit. Ended up in Florida owning her own dance studio.

Recently her son sent me a few photos of her I had not seen and a little information which you can read below.

"She was a concert pianist as a teen and a prima ballerina, discovered at the age of 17 to appear in a Broadway Show, "Anything Goes" (I think) then she was discovered by my father who was already a vaudeville star".

"She worked as a show girl at the Queens Terrace nightclub in Queens, NY, on the same bill with Jackie Gleason and Red Skelton. That was the early 1940's when she was living as a single woman raising me and my brother. That's when all the gangsters fell in love with her".

A couple weeks ago I was in Duluth, the north eastern part of MN is where I would recommend people to visit if it was their first time visiting the state.

The weather was not the best, but I still had a nice time.

Duluth is full of mansions, it use to be a very wealthy city.

We were away this past weekend, and our room was all art deco,as you can see from the master bed.

I found a 1950s prom dress at this antique store, and some really swell photographs of a mother and her little one..it melted my heart and had to have them.

This church stood out so much in the storm clouds.

Road Trip..

Scott and I took a three day road trip, which started in Minneapolis. We were at Lees Liquor Lounge to See Wayne "the train" Hancock, which was amazing! and This kid Wyatt Maxwell can play the guitar so well!! after the show we headed down to Clear Lake Iowa and visited the Buddy Holly memorials,and I also got to visit banks that John Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde robbed.. among other things.

At the Surf Ballroom, this would of been the dressing room that leads to the stage.

I was reading about Martha Mansfield, and felt so awful about how she died. She was working on the movie The Warrens of Virginia, and it was hoped this would be the film that would bring her into 100 % stardom. While she was taking a break in the back of her car, she started on fire by a tossed match! I suppose her civil war costume was very much flammable,imagine being burned wearing taffeta , and that was the end of the Ziegfeld beauty :(

I was watching the movie Piccadilly a few evenings ago, and the camera work in this movie strikes my fancy to the fullest, not to mention Anna May Wong.

in other news....

Sometimes I get vintage pieces that are so worn and I like to give them life,and photograph them back to their glory, once I bought a dress from about 1919 fully beaded and just beautiful, it was very torn, but I managed to get some amazing photographs in it, I still have it, it reminds me of a dress the leading lady would wear in early Charlie Chaplin films.

I bought this piece below awhile ago, the skirt is not in the best shape at all, but the blouse still has life left in it. If I don't feel old hollywood in this outfit I have a problem.

Just a few photos from my last weekend! it was a busy one!!

I did a little vintage style show that went over really well,it was really cute to see all the young girls get so exicted,it was prob the first time they have ever worn such things,as you can see in the last photo it was in a little old vintage church,and it was packed..people had to stand. If I do it next year we will need a bigger place and we will go all out. I do not have very good photos of the show since I was not able to take photos myself since I was the one talking about each outfit.

4th of july weekend..

We did not do anything spectacular, we enjoyed stayin in town since everyone had left, I had seen fireworks the previous weekend so we went to the movies instead that night knowing we would have really the whole theatre to ourselves. The weekend was really hot, we did not go to any lake because EVERYONE would be there,its the cliche thing to do here in MN on the 4th,ANY lake you go to its going to be full.. good thing we have a pool,although I do prefer a lake. Gingham was my choice for the weekend during our frolics.

Friday evening a friend and I went to see the Artie Shaw Orchestra, of course not the original, but these cats keep the spirit of Artie Shaw alive and play all his songs. This big band was the real deal! Amazing time.

Saturday evening the fellow and I went to a Hangar Dance, we had a really good time dancing and talking with new people, I won best dressed girl, and it was fun to see a lot of folks dressed up and enjoying themselves. I did not take many photos as my camera went dead, but I will try and get some that others took. I thought my hair for the evening turned out pretty cute! We met a really cute middle aged couple and I told scott I hope we are as fun as they are when we turn that age, they really were the best out on the dance floor just enjoying themselves so much.

historic bullock hotel

ok, so the only reason we stayed at this hotel was because its said to be haunted.. and we booked the most haunted room, we did not experience any hauntings, a few odd things but nothing that would convince me we had just been haunted. Its a historic hotel, Teddy Roosevelt stayed here, his best friend was the one who built this hotel, and he's the one thats said to haunt it. Only downer of this hotel was the staff was really rude! I had to actually complain to management, now how would Mr bullock like it that the staff is being rude.. I hope he haunts them big time and scares the bejeebies outta them.
This hotel use to have a underground tunnel so the ladies of the night could come in discreetly back in the old days.
It was a interesting place.

Photos from one of the hotels we stayed at, it was a really nice and cozy place. We had the whole floor to ourselves! and the third floor had a really pretty ballroom.

The night we stayed here I woke up to a storm, and later I swore I heard music from the ballroom.. spoooky. It was a great place to stay.

On our getaway we stopped at a diner that was original from the 1950s, it even had carnival rides in the back. In the gift shop they also had a small Elvis shrine with some of his things, plus in back they had a small celebrity museum.

I received my vivian of holloway trousers awhile ago,they are a tad big,but I will know next time to order a size smaller. Yesterday I cut apart a bundle of Lilacs and boy did I pay for it with my allergies....

This will prob be my last post for awhile since I have a lot of things going on, plus a mini vacation next weekend! although I wish I were going to california..I am craving the west coast a lot lately.

I am running on three hours of sleep as I write this..

Scott played a show with some comedy acts.. I usually do not care much for stand up comedy but one guy had me rolling.

Murder at the Vanities 1934, released just before the code crackdown.
This movie has such beautiful costumes,and barely no costumes at all. If you always wanted to peek in Paramounts wardrobe building from the early 30s,this would come close to it. I really enjoy the musical numbers so much!! The storyline really is not the best,but the rest makes up for it.

Cold windy spring weather here in the midwest! I have been indoors watching old films ( in my spare time),has anyone seen "HOT SATURDAY"? ( 1932 ) I absolutely LOVE this movie and have been so inspired by it!

My lovely little nephew came to visit, whenever he first sees me he starts bringing me all these toys to stack up by me. here we are! taken with the computer cam. He thought that was pretty fun looking at the computer and seeing him looking back.

On another note, I want to thank you all for your lovely replies on the previous post, I really do appreciate it, you ladies are amazing!

I must admit the only thing that made me think was perhaps it is silly of me to take as many photos I do of me.. maybe its unheard of to love photography plus love being the muse/steady in front of the camera..

I have always stated I never thought I was anything spectacular,my photo taking begin out of being bored, for a long time I never showed anyone my photos because I never thought anyone would care for them.

I started getting great feedback on my photos and realized perhaps I was good at photography, I say that this is the truth that I DO NOT post photos to get compliments on my looks, yes of course its nice to get compliments,but I would rather much more get a compliment on how authentic my photos look, I love capturing the vintage spirit its so fun for me,and its something that is lost.

I just like to showcase my work and vintage style photography,and hope someday I will have my own photography business.

Its all about celebrating the eras that are lost.

Its fun for me,and no one could ever change that.

Thursday night scott's band played then we headed over to see the Hellblinki Sextet,love them! then we headed over back to the venue scott played to catch another band..you know I hate it when people feel the need to spill beer on the crowd and spit.. ewww. I have just finished reading a book about them by Jeff Guinn,I have read ALOT of books about the duo,but I really enjoyed this one just for the fact he made it clear on just how bad their lives sucked from the beginning,which other books fail to mention,they were not just two kids in love who decided to run away one day and there really was nothing romantic about them,I guess you can see it being romantic she stayed by him and they died together.. but they had it tough!

I think the photos made them who they are today..without those infamous photos things may be different in fame aspect. I am sure there are photos of them we have never seen! in fact I am positive and wonder what ever happened to them...

for someone like me who loves reading about 1930 depression era outlaws.. I am lucky enough to have banks around here robbed by the karpis/dillinger gang and one robbed by bonnie and clyde,I have not been to the one that was robbed by Bonnie and Clyde,it does not even look like a bank anymore.

Today I visited this old school house..
I am ready for my lessons.

Inside the old school house,you can see where the old chalk board use to be.. it was really not very safe to go inside this place..

I found this dress last weekend..but it really looked better on the hanger then on me.. If anyone really loves this dress I will sell it to you.

today I found two lovely vintage dresses,two lovely magazines from the 1920s,one hat,and a deco shoe clip, I happened to pick the right day to go,they were having some really good sales, for example the magazines from the 20s I bought were two dollars each..
I overhead two ladies in the store saying how people back then dressed so much better,than they looked at themselves and said.. "wow look at how we are dressed..I can't believe we leave the house like this"

its been very snowy here lately,I finally had time to relax and watch some valentino movies. My fellow played with The Reckless Ones lastnight,which is a rockabilly band from mpls, I was not able to attend so I was a little bummed, but this weekend should make up for it!

Telegram!! I am actually not to fond of this holiday season but I try to make the best of it! I recently went on a sleigh ride,but there was not enough snow.. so it was more of a sleigh with wheels ride.. it was fun anyway,very bumpy and thrilling when the horses started going fast,I actually had to hang onto my boyfriend and was nervous taking photos for I thought I might drop my camera.. its hard to type this since I cut my finger on a razer last week..it took a chunk outta it.. :( its still sore. Enjoy the photos and the holiday!

Here is my perfect vintage christmas. ( its been awhile since I've wrote.. )

waking up to seeing snow among the trees in a cozy whimsical setting,with hot brandy cider to cure what chills you may have getting out of bed,a horse drawn sleigh ride outside waiting to take you to that one place where snow flakes look like diamonds and holly fills the trees inducing sweet dreams.

Ever wanted to own some Gucci? Now you can,I just listed a vintage Gucci purse,its legit..the real thing,for dirt cheap,the price does reflect the condition,but it still has alot of life left in it!
I also listed a wonderful COACH Purse.. for again dirt cheap.
trust me they are both authentic..I just need to get rid of things.

I will be listing more things as well.

If my etsy sales do not pick up soon,I will be forced to just close it down all together. I know it is somewhat my fault for I do not have enough time to devote to it,and plus people really do not have the money to spend these days. I almost think I should go back to ebay for I had better luck there.

I slashed prices on alot of things, so check it out and spread the word!
