Although Rudolph Valentino's house is gone, the original gate is still there. It is above Beverly Hills, pretty fun to see!  The servant house/garage is still standing. More soon!  xo

Some exciting news, I am newly engaged.. who would of thought! Here are some engagement photos we took kind of on a whim, I thought it would be cute to do a theme about the "Hollywood guy" taking the small town midwest girl away, and since Nick has always worked in movies it really fit. My engagement ring is from the 1930s that Nick bought and picked out himself in old Hollywoodland, one of our favorite places to walk around and look at all the old mansions up in the hills. We do not have any wedding day plans set yet but possibly a wedding in Napa Valley next year.

Mad about plaid...and California Land.

My Domb 'party line' dress,an early Emma Domb label from the 40s, I found it at American Vintage on Hollywood Blvrd. This dress has so much fabric and is so fun to wear! I love thrift store shopping in LA!

a Few old movie Studios.

Image
A lot has changed since I made movies in the 30s.. of course the photo above is me on a whim. My favorite thing about Hollywood is seeing all the old studios. Check out this link to read about the studios being haunted http://www.prairieghosts.com/hollywood5.html Outside the old Mack Sennett Studios The above three photos are the old studios of United Artists. The last photo is so cool because the old plaque is still there. The original studio was founded in 1919 by  D. W. Griffith ,  Charlie Chaplin ,  Mary Pickford , and  Douglas Fairbanks

Fredric March.

Image
Fredric March is on of my favorite actors, I fell in love with him after I saw him in, "True to the Navy". Dapper March.  Fredric March,1937 April 21st. Hand and foot prints.

Alto Nido

Image
Opened in 1930 as "Hollywood's Premiere Apartment Hotel" primarily for actors. Made famous from Sunset Blvrd. as the apartment Joe Gillis lived in, this movie is actually what sparked a bond between Nick and I.  Claudette Colbert  lived at the Alto Nido while first arriving in Hollywood.  Lila Leeds, who took an overdose of sleeping pills there and almost died in 1948. obscure screenwriter Eugene Walter also lived there.  "drove by the Alto Nido, thought of you"

Thelma Todd

Image
I visited her former cafe and the place where she was found dead. Her death became a great scandal, as some thought it may have been murder, I lean towards the Roland West theory, it was said he did not want her to go out again that night so he locked her in the garage to teach her a lesson.. picture Thelma Todd drunk sitting in the car, in the garage ready to drive off fighting with her lover.. so he locked her in, in the morning much to his shock she was dead. Thelma was very drunk that night, I suppose she passed out and died from the car fumes. We will never know what really happened. The Cafe today. The Garage she was found dead in.  Thelma Todd's ghost.. haha The door to the garage..look at the tile  If walls could talk.....

Max Factor

Image
Visiting the Max Factor building.....its such a beautiful place. A little history on Max Factor- He created appearances for actresses such as Clara Bows heart shaped lips, he also created shades special for the starlets. Some of his clients included- Valentino,Mary Pickford, Pola Negri, Jean Harlow, Claudette Colbert.. to name a few!! The 'Beauty Calibration', its the only one in existence. To put it simple, this wire cage pinpointed where facial corrections needed to be made.  Makeup in Brunette room.  Again in the Brunette Room, Claudette Colbert cut the ribbon on its opening. "Brownette room"  better known as Judy Garlands room.  Here we have Marilyn Monroe's makeup and where she became a blonde.  The "brownette room" was my favorite and I love green ;) Lucy became a redhead in this room.  All the make up you see here was Lucille Ball's So many Starl
